A great article in the Good Weekend a week ago, focused on the benefit of lifting weights to improve bone health. Over 50-year-olds tend to see bone density decrease naturally by 1-2% each year so being able to maintain bone density through exercise is a good result. Low bone density is also known as Osteoporosis and is accelerated by menopause but is also more common in women generally due to smaller and less dense bones.Low bone density can also lead to an increased risk of falls related fractures. 1 in 4 people who break their hip in older age die within 12 months, which highlights the need for strength training to build bone density and balance training to reduce the risk of falls. We follow the evidence of two whole body strength sessions a week including impact training to combat Osteoporosis.#exercisephysiology #bonedensity #osteoporosis #liftingweights ... Scans in a high percentage of cases found people over 50 with no pain to have lesions or tears (72% in one study ) as well as rotator cuff tears (65% in another study). Pain is not always indicative of tissue health. The process of ageing can often be attributed to the reason for tears and lesions and not necessarily be the source of your pain.#exercisephysiology #scans #shoulderpain #tissuedamage #Radiology ...
